There’s a barn owl in that old barn!

We’ve been seeing owl pellets on the floor of the old barn, but we’ve not seen the owl…until yesterday.

When we opened the main doors and turned on the lights, we disturbed a barn owl roosting on the top beam in the barn.  We turned off the lights and exited, but not before identifying the owl as a barn owl.

“The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) is the most widely distributed species of owl, and one of the most widespread of all birds” according to Wikipedia.  Our open fields provide great hunting conditions for this owl, allowing it to fly slowly over the fields as it seeks out small rodents.
